General Information on Gaviri PocketSearch®

How does Gaviri PocketSearch® work?

Gaviri PocketSearch® is Gaviri's portable search technology for indexing and searching multiple devices. Gaviri PocketSearch® runs on desktops, laptops, smartphones, PocketPCs, flash and external drives, MP3 players, network drives and a host of other devices. Unlike other search engines, Gaviri PocketSearch is designed to be a one-stop-shop for all your search needs across all the devices you use, regardless of operating system. In addition, Gaviri PocketSearch® is portable.

Gaviri PocketSearch® installs the search engine and the index for each device on the device itself, this makes each device independently searchable while on-the-go, or collectively searchable when connected via a network, USB or FireWire port. After installation, the search engine indexes all the contents on the device and new files are indexed on-the-fly, if Gaviri PocketSearch® is running.

How is relevancy determined when ordering the results? Is it by date, number of times seen in a document, or something else?

Relevancy is determined by term frequency weighted by document length. The total number of words in each document is divided by the total number of search terms in the document. The document with the highest score gets listed before the document with the lower score. We plan to add date ordering as well but we do not have a specific release date.
